This text aims to explore the longstanding relevancy of puppets and dolls and considering the idea that the humanoid figurine could present itself as a vessel for a soul. By suggesting that a soul is simply the summary of its actions, Bishop follows the idea that the soul cannot be physically added or removed through literal means; therefore, it may be considered possible that the soul can exist within an object that is animated through the energy and thoughts of a human. For it is not a body, but something which belongs to a body, and for this reason exists in a body, and in a body of such and such a kind. It comes up repeatedly that the soul seems to hold its own potency that is not just another part of the body as a liver or heart would be; it is an essence, whereas the body is a physical object with the capability of literal, growth and movement.
At Theological College we were always taught that the best sermons consisted of three key points; and so on one Feast of Corpus Christi, a young, dashing ordinand stood up to preach what was arguably the most comprehensive and theologically profound three point sermon ever given. And then sat down, earning the eternal gratitude of the entire congregation. On this feast day, of all days, when we come to encounter Jesus Christ in the most Holy Sacrament of the altar, we see revealed in the hands of the priest these simple, yet profound truths which speak not only to our own personal faith journeys and our own struggles to become more Christ-like, but which speak of the very purpose of the whole world: to respond to the living God in whom we have our being.

This feast is celebrated in the Latin Church on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday to solemnly commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist. Of Maundy Thursday, which commemorates this great event, mention is made as Natalis Calicis Birth of the Chalice in the Calendar of Polemius for the 24th of March, the 25th of March being in some places considered as the day of the death of Christ. This day, however, was in Holy Week, a season of sadness, during which the minds of the faithful are expected to be occupied with thoughts of the Lord's Passion.
